How to Treat Cracked Hard Heels at Home Naturally

Cracked heels are not attractive to look at and makes it very uncomfortable for some people to walk out showing their feet. Cracked heels can be caused by dry skin due to dry weather conditions, shoes that do not fit properly, standing for long hours, walking around barefoot and sometimes medical conditions which is rare. I will share with you some very simple natural home remedies to keep your feet looking smooth and soft always.

1. Honey

Honey is a natural antimicrobial agent. It moisturizes the skin and heels wounds. It also heels and cleanses the skin. You can apply fresh honey on your feet after soaking your feet in lukewarm water for sometime. You can also apply the honey on your feet overnight. Wrap a rubber wrap over your feet or wear socks to seal in the moisture and avoid staining your bed. Make sure to wash the honey off afterwards.

2. Moisturize your Feet with Heel Balm

Heel balms recommended for cracked heels contain Urea, Salicylic acid, saccharide isomerate or alpha hydroxy acid. These ingredients moisturize the feet, soften it and remove dead skin. Please check out for any of the mentioned ingredients when buying a heel balm. Apply the balm in the morning to increase your skin elasticity. Moisturize your feet at least 3 times a day and wear shoes that protect your feet. You can get foot balms from pharmacies and cosmetic shops.

3. Soak and Exfoliate your Feet

Soaking and exfoliating your feet keeps it hydrated and reduces the cracks. Soak your feet in soapy lukewarm water for about 20 minutes. Using a foot scrubber, remove any hard and thickened skin. Dry your feet and apply a heel balm or any moisturizer of your choice. Apply petroleum jelly (Vaseline) over your feet and wear some clean socks to lock in the moisture. Do this 2 times daily for maximum effect. You can add vinegar to your foot soak instead of soap.

4. Banana

Banana has a very good moisturizing ability. Blend some fresh bananas and put it in a zip lock bag or a bowl. After soaking your feet in lukewarm water, put your feet inside the bag with the mashed banana or smear the mashed banana over your feet for about 10 minutes. Take out your feet and clean it. Continue this for sometime and see results.

5. Get Frequent Grooming

Make sure you get your feet groomed at least twice a week to keep it fresh.

Remember to always keep your feet moisturized. You can use Shea butter, paraffin wax, olive oil or vegetable oil to moisturize your feet. Mix some oatmeal and oil to exfoliate your feet as well.

You can also prevent cracked heels using these tips :

1. Stay hydrated by drinking a lot of water. At least 8 glasses of water a day is recommended

2. Wear good quality socks

3. Avoid standing in one position for too long

4. Try not to sit for long hours with crossed legs

5. Remember to apply some moisturizer before bed every night.

Practicing any of the above mentioned remedies and preventive measures will help you keep your heels fresh all the time. You will see results when you start these remedies but do not stop, make sure you continue because it will take sometime for the skin to completely heal. See your doctor if your cracked heels are severe since it could be caused by a medical condition. Do not use any of the remedies if you have allergies.
