Reasons why you should eat beans at least 3 times a week.

A very popular Ghanaian food that is mostly loved and enjoyed by students and workers in both rural and urban centres. The famous Gari and beans with palm oil and normally eaten with fried plantain is known by many Ghanaians as Gob3 or Y) k3 gali. It is and can be consumed at any time during the day based on the persons discretion. I simply love to eat Gob3 as my breakfast for the day and most people love to take it in the evening.

Without knowing the benefit or side effects of taking in this favorite dish, let's quickly discuss some general benefits of eating Gob3.

Considering beans as one of the key ingredient, it contains;

1. Protein which helps maintain and repair the body.

2. Amino acids, which helps the body to heal and to make tissues such as bone, muscle, hair, skin and blood.

3. Folate which is very essential for overall health, to make healthy red blood cells.

4. Antioxidant which fights the effects of free radicals present in the body.

In summary, beans provide protein, fibre, iron and antioxidants which are very essential to the human body, hence it is very advisable to increase the intake of beans at least 3 times a week to reduce the risk of intestinal discomfort.

Now considering the fried plantain as another product, it contains decent sources of magnesium, potassium, vitamin A and vitamin K. They also supply vitamin C and B vitamins to the body when consumed. All these vitamins and minerals can also be found in banana but in less portions as compared to plantain. Thus, it is advisable to consumed Gob3 with banana's when plantain isn't available.

When consumed at least 3 times a week, these vitamins acts as an antioxidant which may help boost your immune system. As an antioxidant, it may protect your body against free radical damage that's associated with aging, heart disease, and even some types of cancer.

And finally considering the palm oil, its benefits when consumed includes decreasing cholesterol levels, reducing oxidative stress, boosting brain health, slowing the progression of heart disease, increasing vitamin A status, and improving skin and hair health.
