Palmnut soup is a kind of soup made from palm fruits. Traditionally, palmnut soup is eaten with fufu, rice, and banku.

This is the recipe for making this delectable Ghanaian soup.


1. Palm nut paste.

2. Seasonings.

3. Dried fish of your choice.

4. Pepper.

5. Maggi cubes (optional).

6. Fresh tomatoes.

7. Onions.

8. Ginger.

9. Meat.

10. Garlic cloves.

11. Salt to taste.


1. In a blender, puree the ginger, garlic, and onion until smooth.

2. Place the meat, ginger, garlic, and onion mixture, salt, and Mrs Ansah spices/seasoning in a large cooking pot.

3. Add your palm nut paste after steaming the meat for about 5 minutes.

4. Add water to achieve the desired thickness.

5. Add the peppers, tomatoes, and onions to the cooking pot; after 3- 5 minutes, remove the soup from the heat and puree until smooth.

6. Stir in the pepper, tomato, and onion mixture into the soup.

7. Add the fish and cook until the soup has thickened slightly.

8. If there is too much palm oil on the surface, use a spoon to scrape it off before serving.
