Jute mallow (Ayoyo)
Jute mallow is a species of shrub in the family Malvaceae. The leaves and young fruits are used as a vegetable, the dried leaves are used for tea and as a soup thickener, and the seeds are edible.
Pisonia aculeate (Akobowere)
Pisonia aculeata is a large, evergreen shrub producing climbing stems that can be 20 metres long and attach themselves to other plants by means of recurved thorns. The stems can be up to 16cm in diameter. Short thorny branches sometimes persist on the lower stem. The leaves are used, either fresh or in decoction, to treat skin problems such as scabies and ulcers. The roots are purgative. They are also used to treat cough.

In foods and beverages, the extract and oil of lemon balm are used for flavoring.
Justicia Flava (Afema)
Afema is a perennial herb or shrublet, growing up to 450 mm high. An infusion of the plant is taken with egg albumen and coconut juice against palpitations of the heart and leaf sap is used as an eye lotion. In Tanzania leaf sap is taken against hookworm and to treat hydrocele, including bathing the affected parts. The bitter root is chewed by the Masai to cure diarrhoea and coughs.
