Ghana just like any other country is still fighting against the Covid-19 pandemic that hit the world. Many economies and lives around the world have been shattered as a result of the pandemic which was accompanied by lockdowns. Ghana hasn’t been spared from these. The country has recorded over 94,000 cases with a recovery of about 92,000. About 789 people have sadly succumbed to the virus.
Latest surrounding this has been the acquisition of vaccines. Many have argued that the country has not done enough especially after President Akufo-Addo made promises of shipping vaccines. In a twist of events, the leadership of Ghana has been accused to have procured some vaccines at almost double the rice through an Arab mediator. It is unclear if the Sputnik vaccines costing $19 have been paid for.
In the midst of this brouhaha, Gabby Otchere Darko has dropped some good news for the country. In a Twitter post shared today, Friday, June 11, 2021, Gabby said that Ghana has improved to Level One on the CDC level of country infections and management. According to him, Ghana’s travel advisory has also dropped to level one and this means that the country can now exercise normal precautions.
It is yet to be determined as to what normal precautions mean. Many are however concerned as to whether this is not a diversion tactics to take minds of the ongoing investigations into overpriced Sputnik vaccines.
