Training of Insecticide Treated Net Champions Finally Held at Assin Fosu Municipality

By Edith Boakyewaa Lovina Donkor

The Assin Fosu municipal health directorate on Wednesday, 20th October 2021 organized an educative workshop for health workers within the municipality dubbed Training of Insecticide Treated Net Champions.

The comprehensive workshop was aimed at sensitizing the health practitioners and equipping them with the right logistics needed to convince natives to sleep in the Insecticides Treated Net (ITN) to prevent fatal malaria.

Health promotion officers within the municipality, senior staff officers, in-charges, midwives, community health volunteers, community nurses, and other health officers were called to arms from towns within the Fosu municipality to partake in this exercise at the Assin Fosu Municipal Assembly Hall.

Speaking to Edith Boakyewaa Lovina Donkor, the Municipal Health Promotion Officer, Robert Mensah outlined that the sensitization is needful for reinforcement where the nurses will be fed the adequate logistics to educate and convince the townspeople to use the treated mosquito nets which were distributed to them afore.

The Municipal Health Promotion Officer further elaborated that the trainees have been coached to be ITN champions who will champion the cause of influencing people to use treated nets. Hence the need for equipment like blue tooth speakers and pen drives containing videos and audios of how to use the nets.

"Health facilities with a television set can insert the pen drive where patients who visit the facility can watch the videos and be equally educated."

The health practitioners who were present at the fair had a lot to say about how constructive and valuable the workshop was for them.
