More Than Just A Spice: Health Benefits Of Cayenne Pepper

In Nigeria we call it "shombo". It is a hot chili pepper that we use to flavor our food, unbeknownst to many of us, this pepper has a lot of benefits and has been used to save lives countless times.

This pepper's powerful ingredient is an ingredient called "Capsaicin". It is the compound that is responsible for it's hot flavors and most of it's wonderful abilities. Aside Capsaicin however, Cayenne pepper also contains Vitamin C, A, E and K. It also contains calcium, manganese, zinc, magnesium etc, which are all good for the health. 

*BOOST METABOLISM

For my ladies who want to burn fat then you should consider incorporating this pepper to your diet and regime. The compound "Capsaicin" has been shown to suppress hunger and increase the body's metabolism by 20% which is about 2 hours.

 Because Capsaicin is a thermogenic chemical, it helps to create heat in the body and burns more fat and calories by doing so. It also suppresses cravings and gives a feeling of fullness causing the user to eat less.

HOW TO USE

*In the morning after a small meal, add a teaspoon of powdered Cayenne pepper to a glass of warm water and drink.

*Repeat the process at night.

*LOWERS BLOOD PRESSURE

There are countless herbs out there that can help lower blood pressure and Cayenne pepper is one of the best herbs for the cause. It achieves this by opening up your blood vessels and increasing blood flow. 

Capsaicin also affects the sensory nerves that work with neuro-hormonal systems thereby lowering blood pressure. 

HOW TO USE

*Add a tablespoon of the powdered pepper to a glass of warm warm water every day before bed to lower blood pressure

*CAN BE USED AS A PAIN RELIEVER

The compound "Capsaicin" has powerful pain relieving properties when applied to the area where the pain is being felt which is why many pain drugs contain Capsaicin. How it does this is by reducing the amount of substance P (a chemical that releases pain messages to the brain).

HOW TO USE

*Heat up ½ cup of coconut oil and add two tablespoons of powdered Cayenne pepper. Apply three times a day to where to feel pain (Joint pain, Inflammation)

*HELPFUL FOR CANCER TREATMENT

Many studies have shown that Capsaicin has the ability to induce apoptosis (death of cancer cells) and inhibit cancer cells from spreading to other parts of the body. It has shown great promise in treating lung, breast, colon and prostrate cancers. It has also been shown to shrink cancerous tumors

HOW TO USE

*Dilute a teaspoon of Cayenne powder in a glass of warm water and take after a meal in the morning

*Repeat the process before going to bed at night

*IMPROVES DIGESTIVE HEALTH

Cayenne pepper improves the stomach's ability to fight infections and it increases the production of healthy gut bacteria. The pepper also aids smooth transportation of important enzymes to the stomach. 

Though people believe spicy foods can cause or aggravate ulcers, it is not true for Capsaicin. Cayenne pepper has been proven to heal stomach ulcers, if you will believe it!

HOW TO USE

*Add a quarter teaspoon of Cayenne pepper to warm water. 

*Drink it slowly throughout the day

*After some days, increase it to one teaspoon and drink throughout the day

*PROTECTS THE HEART

Cayenne pepper is known to prevent blood clots making it effective in preventing and managing a heart attack. The Capsaicin clears the lipids that narrow the arteries 

Studies have shown that it is effective in treating heart issues like blood circulation problems, irregular heartbeats (arrhythmia).

Infact a popular herbalist, Dr John Christopher is known to bring patients out of a heart attack in 30 seconds by making them take a glass of warm Cayenne water.

*A teaspoon of Cayenne powder after meal in the morning and a teaspoon to warm water at night before bed

Cayenne pepper can help thin the mucus, stimulate the sinuses thereby freeing your airways.

An old remedy that works is using Cayenne pepper to relieve toothaches.

*Add quarter teaspoon of Cayenne powder to quarter cup of water 

*Swish the water around your mouth, concentrating on where the pain is for 3-5 minutes.
