Nowadays, a lot of people find it extremely difficult to go out to the gym for a workout, or hit the street for a walk.Some of these people have genuine reasons for not doing so; family, work schedules etc.So, how do you achieve your weight loss goals, without incorporating physical exercise into your daily routine.?

Chew your food thoroughly and slow down your eating

You should chew your food 12 times before you swallow.This is because digestion of food begins in the mouth, and the saliva in the mouth contains some enzymes which aids in the digestion of foods. Eating at a slow pace gives the brain some time to register that you are full. Studies has shown that, it takes about 15-20 minutes for the brain to access the amount of food you've eaten.This method will help you to be mindful of your eating.


Use Smaller Plates To Eat Unwholesome Foods

Lets say, you go to a party and you were offered fried rice and chicken, the only option available.If i were you, i will grab the smallest plate on the table before i serve my self any kind meal. Serving your meal on a small plate, tells the brain that, there is lot of food on the plate, and the possibility of you going for a second, and third meal will be reduced. Hey, because you don't want the people at the party to think that you just came for the food.


Eat Plenty Protein

One thing i've realised about the Ghanaian way of eating, is that we tend pack up more carbohydrates than protein in our diets on daily basis.In order to lose weight, you should have a lot of protein, a moderate amount of carbohydrates and vegetables.Because protein makes you feel fuller faster as compared to carbohydrates.


Keep Unhealthy Foods Out Of Sight

If you open your refrigerator, and you see a bar of chocolate, chances are that, you will grab it and snack on it. Similarly, if open your refrigerator and find a bottle of soda, chances are that, you will grab it and drink. It is always recommended to keep these unhealthy foods out sight so as not get tempted, or just get rid of these unhealthy foods in your refrigerator and replace it with healthier foods.Next time, if you open your refrigerator and find only healthier foods, you have no other option than to eat what you have.


Include Fibre-Rich Foods In Your Diet

Fibre-Rich foods like Oatmeal, beans etc tends to swell in your belly and fill you up faster. Fibre-rich foods tends to send message to your brain that you are full, and you tend to eat less. So eating more fibre-rich foods helps in weight loss.


Drink More Water

Drinking a lot of water aids in weight loss. The daily recommended intake of water is 8 glasses of water per day.Drinking water before any meal tends to make you eat less.


Eat More Fruits And Vegetables

Studies has shown that, eating fruits and vegetables on daily basis helps in maintaining a healthy weight and leads to weight loss.


Avoid Foods That Are High In Trans Fat

Foods that are high in trans fat should be avoided . Trans fat foods include: cheeseburgers, pies,french fries, doughnuts,margarine,processed foods etc. Regular eating of these foods leads to unhealthy weight gain and chronic illnesses such diabetes, hypertension etc.
