Cancer is a disease that occurs when abnormal cells grow uncontrollably.
When detected and treated early, cancer doesn’t necessarily cause life threatening complications. Cancer becomes life threatening when it affects major organs and their ability to function.
The stomach is a muscular organ forming part of the digestive system. Food travels down the oesophagus and into the stomach where it is mixed with stomach juices that help to digest food.
Stomach cancer develops when cells in the lining of the stomach change and grow out of control. If it is not found and treated early stomach cancer can spread to other parts of the body.
