It has been almost a year now since the first case of the corona virus disease was recorded in Ghana. Since then, the country has recorded a total of 69,255 cases of the virus of which 62,729 persons have fully recovered and have been discharged representating 90.6% of the total cases recorded. 440 persons have sadly died of the virus leaving the total active cases at 6,086. This is the first time the country is recording over 6000 active cases since the virus entered the shores of Ghana in March, 2020.
Greater Accra is still leading the chart of the highest number of confirmed cases. The Region has recorded a total of 40,734 of which 37,191 persons have fully recovered and discharged representing 91.3% of the total cases in the region. The total number of active cases in the region is now at 3,357 representing over 50 percent of the total active cases in the country.
Oti Region has the highest percentage of recovery cases. Out of 246 people who tested positive for the virus, 240 of them have fully recovered representing 97. 6% of the total cases in the region. The number of active cases in the region is now at 2. Savannah Region has the lowest number of active cases (1).
The upper west region has the lowest percentage in terms of recoveries per region. Out of the 220 people who have tested positive for the virus, only 146 persons have recovered hence leaving the recovery percentage at 68.5%. The total number of active cases in the region is 68.
For the past couple of weeks, the country has always recorded at least 700 news cases daily. This has pushed the number of active cases in the country to a level that no one could have imagined. It wasn't like that during the first phase of the pandemic. The second phase is recording doubles of the cases that were recorded during the first phase per day. If this trend should continue, the country could hit 200,000 covid 19 cases by June 2021.
If nothing is done to reduce the spread of the virus and we keep recording over 700 new cases every day, the country could record over 21,000 new cases over a month. Should this trend continues till June, the total number of confirmed cases in the country could reach 200,000 by June 2021, and 500,000 by December 2021. This is from the analysis I have made over the past 11 months. So please let's observe all the protocols so that we can control the spread to a minimum.
