Cancer is termed as an abnormal growth of mutated cells. Some of the body's cells begin to divide without stopping and spread into surrounding tissues. Normally, new cells form as you need them, replacing old cells that die (Mitosis and meiosis). Most times, this process goes wrong. New cells form when you don't need them and old cells don't die when they should. That is the genesis of how cancers go about.

Unfortunately, most of these cancers occur to children when they are in their womb while others happen after birth. There are many cancers of the bone, blood, brain, eye etc. Sometimes when the woman is pregnant, certain activities go on that can trigger malformation or cancers of the newborn.

In children, a genetic condition such as Down syndrome, can sometimes increase the risk of cancer. In most cases, childhood cancer happen because of spontaneous or random changes in the genes of growing cells. Cancers of the blood and bone marrow (leukomia) is the most common type of cancers in children.


Treatment of cancers in children is curable with the modern therapy just that it very expensive in cost. There are many various therapies that are used in managing cancers. There is radiation therapy and other medications used to treat it.

There are many types of cancer treatment. The types of treatment that a child with cancer receives will depend on the kind or particular type of cancer and how it is. The common treatment of cancer include: chemotherapy, surgery, radiation therapy, immunotherapy and stem cell transplant.
