Covid-19 : Ghana Receives Over 177, 000 Doses Of Johnson And Johnson Vaccines To Fight Virus

The Government of Ghana On Saturday August 7th, 2021 received over 177,600 doses of Johnson and Johnson Covid-19 vaccines to help fight the Virus.

The latest consignment of vaccines was acquired through the vaccine acquisition Trust mechanism established by the African Union with support from the African Import and Export Bank, the Africa CDC and the World Bank.

Under the initiative, a total of 400 Million doses of the Johnson and Johnson Covid-19 vaccines will be made available to the African Union in the coming Months.

Receiving the vaccines on behalf of the Government of Ghana, deputy Minister of Health, Hon. Tina Mensah assured that, the Ministry of Health will continue to deliver on its mandate of ensuring a healthy population for National Development.

Ghana's active cases of COVID-19 now stands at 6,766 with the total confirmed cases now at 106,434 with the deaths now at 854 and the recoveries now at 98,814.

The arrival of this latest vaccines comes at a time when the deadly Delta variant is spreading in Ghana.

The Delta variant is said to be more deadly than the Wuhan variant which was first detected in Wuhan China.

The Ghana Health Service has warned that, the third wave of COVID-19 in Ghana could be dire if Ghanaians are not observing the safety protocols.
