Higher HIV Cases Amongst Women In Ada East District

A significantly large Community close to the Central University, known as Ada has recorded 256 HIV cases for 2021, with 73 cases being males and 183 cases being females.

Mr. Anani Junior, the Ada East District HIV Coordinator indicated that out of the 183 females, more than 30% of them were pregnant. Amongst these percentages, 22 were HIV clients before their current pregnancy, and 39 were newly diagnosed pregnant women with the virus.

It has been acknowledged that the percentage increase of 2021's data as against 2020's data was a 2 percent increase. This signifies that there is still an increase in HIV cases in Ghana.

Also, women around the ages of 35-39 were the highest group with HIV in Ghana. Meanwhile, men around the ages of 45-49 were the age group with the highest probability of having the virus.

Also, in terms of gender, females were more likely to have the virus than men. This may not be significantly useful due to the number of females to men in Ghana. Obviously, if there are more females than men, then there should be more cases of women than men.

The Ghana AIDS Commission is working hard to enable 95% of all HIV-positive patients to be on regular treatment. As of now, only 60% are on treatment.

Whatever the case may be, let us all keep a reminder that the virus still exists and is growing every year.
