There are a lot of cables used to transmit power or data or both in this modern day technological world. These cables includes electrical cables which are used to carry electricity to our homes and organisations. Another cable which is widely know is the twisted paircable also known as Category (Cat) cable.
This cable is mostly used by networking engineers and technician for wiring home and offices for data transmission. They are also used for PoE (power over Ethernet) application. In this setup, the cable carries both power and data to the end Node instead of using another cable to power the device.
But the cable in question is call Fibre Optical cable. Let's explain what a fibre optical cable is. Fiber optics, or optical fibers, are long, thin strands of carefully drawn glass about the diameter of a human hair. These strands are arranged in bundles called optical cables. We rely on them to transmit light signals over long distances.
This cable is made up of outer jacket mostly polythene, inner coating which contains jell and kevlar to protect water from entering the core and to give it strength during pulling respectively.
Inside the buffers, there are cores of the fibre which is also covered by rubber called cladding. The fibre is very thin which is very delicate to deal with. For this reason, only well trained engineers and technician are authorized to work on it.
Moreover, due to the glass that makes up the fibre, it come with a lot of safety tip that allows the engineer know how to treat It.
When working with fibre optical cable, you do not eat, you do not drink or smoke whilst working with it. Again, you can't touch your face whilst working. After splicing fibre cores, the unwanted parts are gathered and buried.
The reason this cable is dangerous is that, due to it tinny nature, it is easy to enter into your body when you mistakenly ingest or inhale it. After it has entered your body, it can cause serious internal bleeding which may lead to permanent damage to your internal organs or lead to death. When piece of fibre optic cable enter your eyes, it can also cause permanent blindness to you. Effect of fibre injuries can take days to detect it which would have already caused serious damage. Do not work with fibre if you are not trained to use it. Kindly follow me to get more update on technology.
