Eating this types of meat and fishes can cause you serious diseases- Doc. Owusu at UHAS

Nana Kofi Owusu who is a Principal Dietitian for so many years of practice in both public and private health facilities with specialization in Diabetes management and Sports Nutrition. He is also a lecturer of Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho at volta region.

He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science and Nutrition and a Masters of Philosophy with the University of Ghana and the host of "My Life My Health" program on utv, which is showed every Saturday.

On united television (utv), at adekye nsroma program, about the discussions of "Fat Content In Some Meat And Poultry" lead by Mr. Agya Kwabena who is also one of the famous Utv news reporter. Nana Kofi Owusu A.k.A Dietician 1 explain that, Fat is one of major micro-Nutrients.

According to him, He said there is a certain fat found around and under the skin of meat and normally goes along with protein fat. He added, the energy content found in fat (carbohydrate) is higher than that of other nutrients.

He said 1 gram of carbohydrate is equal to 4 unit of calories and 4 gram of fat is equal to 9 units of calories, that's why it is not advisable to eat too much meat fat.

In the discussion, He again said fat is not all that bad and eating meat too is not wrong as well because some fat (good fat) in human help to; 1. Protect some body organs, 2. Its help regulate human temperature that's the hotness and the coldness. 3. Helps in our movement, 4. Help us when we get injury.

He added its although good to eat, but that doesn't mean we should eat too much of meat that contain fat, doing that can generate excessive fat to build a plaque in our veins which may causes atherosclerosis and may lead to poor blood circulation, and when that occurs in human head (brain), it can lead to stroke and when its around the heart, may also lead to heart attack, and those two disease are what many peoples are dying from.

He go on saying, regular eating of meat can one way or other form uric acid in the body which may lead to gout and also combining different types of fishes and eat them at the same time is not the right thing to do, one meat or fish at a goal.

Again He said, we should grilled or roast meat before eating, because that will take some excessive fat from the meat and we should stay or limit the intake of fried meat because meat itself contain fat and adding additional fat to it, is not good for our health. He also recommended that, all meat size should be like a matches box and having that size alone will give you 7gram of protein and eating two or three of it is enough for your health. He stated that, removing the skin of meat especially poultry (chicken) before cooking will be good but going beyond that may lead to different serious health complications like the heart attack, stroke and others because of the fat.

He advice that eating too much of meat doesn't make you the man, so we should eat in a moderate way because life is precious so we should eat to live. He has done his part for educating the public, so please you can help like and share to educate others too thank you.
