KNUST and UCC Students Invent Robot That Can Feed People Without Hands... (+VIDEO)

Orthotics and Prosthetics are the new and latest allied health which is gradually gaining root in Ghana. Recent, some of the various universities in Ghana have started offering these allied health program to feed the health system in Ghana.

What then is Prosthetics? Prosthetics is the evaluation, fabrication, and custom fitting of artificial limbs, known as "prostheses." Prostheses enhance the function and lifestyle of persons with limb loss. The prosthesis must be a unique combination of appropriate materials, alignment, design, and construction.

Lower-limb prostheses might address stability in standing and walking, shock absorption, energy storage and return, cosmetic appearance, and even running, jumping, and other athletic activities. Upper-limb prostheses might address reaching and grasping, occupational challenges including hammering, painting, or weight lifting, and activities of daily living like eating, writing, and dressing.

Prosthetic patients may have been born with limb deficiency or have experienced amputation due to trauma, cancer, infection, or abnormalities in blood vessels or nerves.

However, to fully embrace this new profession, a group of students from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and students from the University of Cape Coast (UCC) have teamed up to invent a prosthetic robot which feeds food to individual without limbs.

It is such a joy to see people lives being made easy and simple with the introduction of this new allied health program in the country.
