The President of the land, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's last nation address on measures taken to combat the spread of Coronavirus was on Sunday, 28th February 2021. This was update number 24. This is the nation address that the President convinced Ghanaians that the six hundred thousand (600,000) COVAX AstraZeneca vaccines imported into the country are not bad.
After that, the leadership showed an example by taking the first dose of the vaccine. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, and Mrs. Samira Baumia were the first government officials to take the vaccine. This propelled many Ghanaians to go in for the virus. But the question is; what is the President's reason for not addressing the nation on Covid-19 for over two months now? Is the virus no more in our country? Or because of the vaccines, there is no need to be too serious about any update again?
The President said that all Covid-19 protocols remain the same from his last speech, meaning only 25 people can organize a private burial for their demise family member but I have encountered no fewer than 10 funerals where the participates are more than 200. It appears to some people that we are back to our normal life.
The enforcement of the wearing of nose masks by the Police is extremely low. You may come across several groups of people not wearing the nose mask on different occasions. As for the veronica budget, washing of hands, and social distances, it seems to be totally out of the system, and most companies who still obey the safety protocols only provide the veronica budget without either tissues or water. It is enormously pathetic.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo also said that nightclubs, pubs, and beaches remain close until further but go and check some of those places yourself, some are busily working. The Police did well during the Easter festivity when President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo instructed them to arrest any person they found swimming at the beachside but after they seem to have gone to sleep on that duty.
Just last week Friday, Christ Embassy Church organized Pneumatica Night where thousands of people disregarded the Covid-19 safety protocol. No social distancing and most were not wearing nose masks. As of 27th April 2021, our active cases of the virus stood at one thousand, five hundred and seventy-four (1,574) with 24 under severe conditions and 7 on critical condition. Unfortunately, 779 people have died at the hands of the virus.
The truth of the matter is we've gone to partial lockdown for less than 1,574 active cases. When we were going on lockdown in March 2020, our active cases was just 141 but the President showed concern and lock us down. Experts have made us understand that this virus will stay with us for a long time so it is about time President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo comes out with update number 25 to strengthen the Covid-19 protocols.
