Heard about the " Aunty Ama obi na ono wee waha no oh" ( literally meaning: Aunty Ama, someone is smoking wee here)? Well, most of the youth in Ghana today, some weed ( cannabis). It's sad but for how long would we continue to blame it all on peer pressure. Personally, I think though peer pressure may be the main factor other factors such as depression, unemployment and the likes are also a responsibility to the rise in the number of youths engage in the act.
Today, let us take close look at the amount of chemical compounds smokers and even second-hand smokers deposits into their body whenever they smoke.
A statistic report from the U.S shows that more than 480,000 people die from tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke, making it the leading cause of preventable death in the country. what is more Alarming?
Most of the youth in Ghana don't have the money to afford tobacco however in replace of it is cigarettes and weed ( cannabis). These substances contain approximately 600 ingredients each. And when either of them is burnt, it creates more than 7,000 chemicals. Out of this, at least 69 of these chemicals are known to cause cancer.
When one smokes to become high, it is not anything new that should be envied. Because what happens is that cannabis or weed has the ability to unleash a chemical known as DOPAMINE. This is the chemical that gives you euphoria, a relaxed feeling and it is also in charge of your emotions.
Whenever you feel sad or happy know that this DOPAMINE is at work. You need NO to smoke to be happy.
