1. Stress and Anxiety

These 2 words can be your worst nightmares. They can increase your weight and disrupt your quality of life. Anytime we experience these 2 feelings, we are confronted with emotional hunger. When this sets in, we tend to eat more, especially sweets and junk foods.

However, if you must eat, try to first eat a piece of fruit with water.

2. Eating quickly

Due to the high level of economic hardship, this generation is always in a hurry. We are a mobile society and always eat on the run. We don’t take our time to chew our food properly. Generally, if we chew each bite slowly, it can take us twenty minutes to finish eating. It is therefore imperative that we take our time to eat which will aid proper digestion and maximum utilization of the nutrients in the food.

3. Eating while distracted

Lying down on the sofa or bed to watch TV after a long day can be very relaxing. Nonetheless, you may begin to snack without even paying attention to what you are eating. This is a typical worry especially during this Covid-19 season where movement is restricted in some countries and localities. Recent study conducted revealed that distractions often results in a person eating 50 percent more calories.

4. Sleeping poorly

If you don’t have any set time to go to bed, your body’s chemistry may get out of synch. In other to enhance your sleep, it is good to keep a sleep schedule or routine.

If you don't, it can create a hormonal imbalance that will trick you into believing you will only be satisfied if you eat.

5. Skipping breakfast

Your first meal of the day should include proteins, a small portion of a healthy fat food and combined complex carbohydrates with adequate amount of vitamins and minerals. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

The truth is, if we don’t manage to get something on our way out to school or work, we will skip breakfast entirely. Our food in the morning activates our metabolism and once that switch is turned on, we are powered up all day.

6. Not consuming enough liquids

Experts suggest that drinking at least 2 liters of water daily helps one to stay hydrated. This will lead to better elimination of waste in the body. The kidney, among other organs, have difficulty functioning properly when they don’t have enough water. This can lead to accumulation of toxins. One way to stay hydrated is to drink natural juices or water.

Consuming carbonated beverages is not a good source of fluid. This can only lead to weight gain because they are high in calories.

7. Excessive salt intake

Too much salt isn’t good for your weight and can also cause fluid retention. When there’s too much fluid retained, it can have a negative impact on your blood pressure.

8. Eating before going to bed

We eat late at night most likely because it’s a habit and not because we are hungry. When you feel you must eat something, select a piece of fruit and eat. If you were to keep track of all you ate at bedtime for a week, you are likely to notice a pattern. You may be eating something sweet and high in calories.

Eating late at night and going to bed right after is very bad and can easily lead to weight gain. It is very necessary to take your supper 3 to 4 hours earlier before going to sleep to provide enough time for digestion to take place.

Just follow these simple but effective lifestyle changes and you will be fine. Your comments and likes are very much welcome.
