The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in collaboration with the Police Service has arrested three persons for selling and promoting unregistered medicines and nutraceuticals for the prevention and treatment of diabetes.
The three were arrested on November 26, 2021, in connection with activities of breach Section 118, section 113, section 114 of the Public Health Act, 2012, ACT 851.
According to the FDA, it received information from the president of the Diabetes Association of Ghana that an online marketing company, 36TY Courier Service, was dealing in unregistered medicines and nutraceuticals for the prevention and treatment of diabetes.
“Following investigations by the FDA, and with the assistance of the Police Service, the products were detained in a public facility offered by the President of the Diabetes Association to which the police have access”, the FDA recounted.
The police service is preparing charges based on the identified infringements of the provisions of Act 851 to begin the prosecution.
The FDA said it will work together with the police to ensure that the intercepted products do not find their way onto the market.
