V/R; Nurses in the Agotime-Ziope district cry uncontrollably at the burial service of colleague.

Everything appeared normal few days after the sudden demise of a nurse whiles on a night duty on the 24th of November, 2020 after a short illness and all attempt to help him proved futile at the Ziope Health Centre in the Volta region until today 30th January, 2021 when the mortal remains was prepared for burial.

It was pathetic noticing colleagues of the noble profession in the district, especially those from the facility where Mr Theophilus Ayikpa worked weep uncontrollably despite many attempts to hold back their tears to prevent the family from unceasing mourning.

The death which many nurses in the district find very difficult to come to terms became true as the mortal remains stared at them in the face.

Mr. Theophilus Ayikpa, aged 33 was a selfless, charismatic, optimistic and a pivotal team player who worked passionately to save lives even at the expense of his own. It is indeed very sad that such an individual who save lives could not be saved after such a short illness even on duty.

Nurses play a very critical and pivotal role in the nation's growth but the manner in which they are handled is nothing to home about. Successive governments have politicised this critical sector making things unbearable for those who work in the area for a healthy mother Ghana.

There is a need for the employment of more nurses into the fraternity to reduce work load. Many of the nurses do to the weak staff strength try to do everything possible to serve even in ill health which is very risky.
