COVID-19 case counts shoots to 23 in Western Region

The latest surveillance report from the Western Region Health Directorate has indicated that total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region as at this morning has shot up to twenty-three (23). This represents a two (2) case count difference to what was reported by the Disease and Surveillance Department of the Ghana Health Service yesterday on their website.

Deputy Director for the Western Region Health Directorate, in-charge of Clinical Care, Dr. Atsu Dodor detailed the cases are expected to rise as the number of suspected cases rises, and with the continued contact tracing and enhance disease surveillance taken in the region.

Per the latest statistics; the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis has 11 confirmed cases, Ahanta West Municipality 3, Tarkwa Nsuaem 2, Effia-Kwesimintsim 1, Mpohor District 1, Ellembele 1, and Nzema East 4.

"All of them are asymptomatic. They are taking some vitamin supplements. And we hope with proper care their immune system will overcome them. But then, we will continue to monitor" he said in an exclusive interview with Skyy Power Fm's Samule Kojo Brace.

He disclosed that most of these patients are being managed in their homes. He added that four of them have been moved into compulsory isolation due to the nature of their environment, so they can mitigate the risk of spreading the virus. He continued that a continued assessment is taken to determine the next course of action.
