Are you aware that, these factors can results in a likelihood of giving birth to an autistic child ?

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a broad term used to describe a group of neurodevelopmental disorders.

These disorders are characterized by problems with communication and social interaction. People with ASD often demonstrate restricted, repetitive, and stereotyped interests or patterns of behaviour.

Caring for children with such conditions in a developing economy like Ghana isn't a child play so all measures must be put in place to ensure that ,the likelihood of giving birth to such children becomes less.

The following factors can however lead to a high likelihood of giving birth to autistic children.

The factors are,

1. HAVING AN IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBER WITH AUTISM.

Having an immediate family member with a congenital disease clearly points to the fact that ,any member of that family has the likelihood of giving birth to a child with that particular disease. Unfortunately ASD is of no exception.

2. GENETIC MUTATIONA

Agene variant is a permanent change in the DNA sequence that makes up a gene. This type of genetic change used to be known as a gene mutation, Variants can affect one or more DNA building blocks (nucleotides) in a gene and can results in conditions like Autism spectrum Disorder (ASD)

4.BEING BORN TO OLDER PARENTS.

Giving birth at an older age has a high likelihood of giving birth to a child with autism spectrum disorder. This is simply because,at old age cell division in all the body activities slows down and there is a high likelihood of genetic mutation which can result in ASD.

5. LOW BIRTH WEIGHT.

Giving birth to a baby with a certain birth weight can result in ASD. Babies with low birth weight have very high percentage chances of developing ASD as such, such children must be given the needed attention.

6. EXPOSURE TO HEAVY METALS AND TOXINS.

Exposure to certain metals and toxins can also result in a high likelihood of giving birth to children with ASD.

7. HISTORY OF VIRAL INFECTION.

People who have a history of viral infection have high likelihood of giving birth to children with ASD. Parents who have history of viral infection should take proper care of their children at birth since they have high likelihood of developing ASD.
