The issue of procurement of COVID-19 vaccines (Sputnik V) at a unit cost of $ 19 raised the attention of many and thus caused them to question the cost of the vaccine. Many saw that something was wrong because the factory price was set at $10 but the Health Minister, Hon. Kwaku Agyemang-Manu later came out to defend why such an action was taken to purchase the vaccines ata unit cost of $19. He went a step further to urge that anyone could get the vaccine at a lower price should inform Ministry for them to purchase the vaccines at the lower price.
While speaking to a committee set up to investigate the procurement of the vacinnes at a high price ($19) as compared to the factory price ($10), the Health Minister accepted that he did not do due diligence before he contracted a private office for provision of 3.4 million doses of the Sputnik V vaccine.
The Minister said that he was in a situation that made him not to think properly since those times were not normal times. He added that anyone would do same if the individual find himself or herself in his shoes.
