The Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa South Constituency in the Eastern Region, Hon. Kofi Okyere Agyekum affectionately called Hon Arafat by his constituents, has donated health equipment to the health directorate in his constituency.
Handing over the Hematology Analyser to the district Health Directorate, Hon. Arafat revealed that the cost of the equipment is Forty Thousand Ghana Cedis (¢40,000.00).
Speaking at a ceremony to hand over this equipment, he revealed that he responded to the plea from the directorate so as to enhance the activities of the Health Directorate.
Hon. Kofi Okyere Agyekum added that, upon demand by the authorities of the directorate, he gave them money to buy the machine themselves and he's happy such a day has come to pass.
"I was contacted by the authorities of the fanteakwa South health directorate that the need a machine that would sample blood. So I told them to get me an invoice and when the invoice came I gave them money to purchase it themselves. The cost of it is ¢40,000.00. I am glad today because samples of blood will no longer be sent to Kibi, Koforidua or any other place. We can now examine them here" - Hon. Arafat said.
He then expressed his commitment to ensuring the health directorate provide provide quality health care services in the Constituency.
"I am ready to commit my widow's mite in ensuring my constituents get quality health care."
According to the District Health Director, Mr Atuahene Agyeman, "this will help in diagnosis of blood related diseases and it will ease the stress on patients to go to other hospitals outside the district for such diagnosis."
In attendance were Hon Maxi Kwadwo Appiah, the Constituency Chairman of the NPP, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Ernest Ofosu, Mr Raphael Odonkor - NPP constituency Secretary among other Constituency executives and polling station executives.
Health workers of the Osino facility were also available to witness the occasion.
