The Power Of Alcohol

Alcohol can have power over many of us. It soothes and relaxes us after a long day's work. It can make time with friends more enjoyable and makes social gathering much easier. But when does your alcohol intake become an issue? Maybe you notice that you drink more than your friends. It can make you feel uneasy or uncomfortable about your drinking habit. Whenever you decide to drink small amount, you end up drinking more than what you had planned to drink. You will surely become drunk as a result and it may keep happening if care is not taken. You may start to isolate more, and your relationship or employment may start to face challenges because of your alcohol usage. If your alcohol intake is dire effect on your quality of life, then this is a sign that you need to act and seek for help urgently.

If you regularly takes in alcohol, irrespective of your mental, psychological and physical condition, you may experience the following effects in the short term.

*. Slurred Speech. You will exhibit poor pronunciation of words, mumbling or a change in speech or rhythm during talking.

*. Drowsiness. You will be feeling sleepy or tired during the day and it can lead to forgetfulness and falling.

*. Vomiting. You will experience uncontrollable reflex that expels the contents of the stomach through the mouth.

*. Diarrhea. You may experience a condition in which faeces are discharged for the bowels frequently and in liquid form.

*. Upset Stomach. You will go through a condition which part of the stomach pushes up through the diaphragm muscle.

*. Headaches. You will experience pressure or tension that results from a demanding situation.

*. Breathing Difficulties. You will go through a condition which your airways become inflamed, narrow and swell and produce extra mucus which makes it difficult to breathe.

*. Unconsciousness. You will be unable to respond to people and activity around you.

*. Blackouts. You may experience memory lapses where you cannot remember events that occurred while under the influence of alcohol.

*. Coma. You may experience a blockage blood flow to the heart muscle.

*. You may also experienced impaired judgement, decreased perception and coordination and anemia (loss of blood cells).

In the long-term, the following effects of alcohol intake may be experienced and it is mostly associated with person's who have become addicted to it.

*. Cancer of the throat.

*. Unintentional injuries such as car crash, falls, burns, and drowning.

*. Intentional injuries such as firearm injuries, sexual assault and domestic violence.

*. Increased on-the-job injuries and loss of productivity.

*. High blood pressure, stroke, and other heart-related diseases.

*.Permanent damage to the brain.

*. Vitamin B¹ deficiencies, which can lead to a disorder characterized by amnesia, apathy and disorientation.

*. Gastritis (inflammation of stomach walls).

*. Alcohol poisoning.

*. Malnutrition, ulcers, sexual problems, nerve damage, liver disease.

Your health is your wealth so kindly be mindful of the amount of your alcohol intake and if possible try as much as you to put a stop it. Seek for help and counseling if you are finding it difficult to stop.
