I am ok I have both male and female sex organs, Ghanaian hemaphrodite speaks

Thursday, 23rd September 2021

A hemaphrodite is a person born with both male and female sex organs specifically penis and vagina. Usually, the doctors in consultation with the parents decided whether or not to destroy one of the organs and leave the other. This decision is arrived after some examinations are conducted to determine which organ is functional. A urinary catheter is passed through the each of the organs, the patent one is regarded as the true organ.

On the other hand, where the parents disagree, the baby grows with both organs but one will be true and the other false organ. That notwithstanding, the false organ equally develops as the child grows. The story of hemaphrodite always sound mysterious until one comes across it.

In Ghana, most hemaphrodites shy away their identity hence do not make it public. But there is one who has on countless occasions made the world aware of her rare sexuality.

Call her Labena, the musician but her real name is Lawrence Abena Lamptey. She is known for her several tattoos and piercings. In fact the 26 year old has 77 tattoos and 30 piercings.

In an interview with ZionFelix monitored by CitizenOne yesterday, the known hemaphrodite said she was content with her status. She said she see herself as a specially created person and was proud of it. According to Labena, she had no intention of removing her non dominant sex organ thus the penis. Instead she will live with it. However, upon request by her future husband, she may consider removing it.

Lawrence Abena Lamptey also encouraged the youth to be content with their status and thank God always. She observed that the youth can make it in life with perseverance and determination.

What do you make of this statement from Labena? If you were in her shoes, will you consider removing one sex organ or you will live with both? Take to the comments section to share your thoughts.
