Two sisters have been remanded by the court for allegedly murdering two innocent relatives in Agona Otwakwa of the Agona East District in the Central Region. The accused, Abena Tawiah and Efua Atta have been sentenced to remand for two weeks, as investigations suggest they poisoned their brother, Kojo Quansah, 30 years old, and his nephew to death.
The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Marian Nabah disclosed that an autopsy carried on the deceased persons revealed that they were poisoned through the food they had consumed some hours before they passed away. She told the court that the accused persons threatened to poison their brother or cause his arrest due to some misunderstanding that they had.
Kojo Quansah is said to have returned from the farm and helped himself to some food that was prepared for him. He left a portion of the food for his nephew [name withheld] who gladly consumed everything.
Hours later, the little boy complained of abdominal pains and died. Kojo Quansah suffered some short illness and died a day after at the hospital. But the police pursued the case and with their findings demanded the court remand these sisters as they await advice from the Attorney-General on the matter.
At the court, one of the accused, Abena Tawiah prayed the presiding judge pardons her because she is pregnant but her plea was denied. The presiding judge instructed that the offence committed is grave and cannot be left on the loose.
The two were whisked from their residence by a team of armed police officers this afternoon. They were preparing fufu, and half-dressed.
But the police insisted that they get some clothes and slippers so they could be transported and processed for the remand. The two sisters are to reappear in court on Thursday 23 December 2021, for a ruling on the matter.
In the meantime, the nephew has been buried. The family is yet to arrange for the final funeral rites of Kojo Quansah.
