Man jailed 15 years for defilement

An Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday sentenced a 44-year-old headmaster to 15 years imprisonment for defiling a 15-year-old final year Junior High Student.

The convict, George Agyekum pleaded not guilty to the charge and will found guilty after the Court trail.

 Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire, who was the prosecutor of the case told the Court presided over by Mrs Christina Cann that the complainant was a trader residing at Saibu near Dansoman with the victim, Accra while the convict was a private headmaster at Shaibu.

He said, as part of the preparation for the 2021 Basic Education Certificate Examination, the victim and her colleagues were asked by the school authorities to     remain in the school for ‘’effective teaching and learning’’

Prosecutor said On September 6, 2021, in the evening, that Agyekum informed the victim that her father had contracted him to teach her in the school.

He said the convict took advantage of that and lured the victim into his room at Shaibu night market and had sex with her. After the act, he gave the victim Ghc 50.00 to buy anything she liked.

On September 7, the convict gave the victim medicine to swallow and insert the same so as not to get pregnant.

 According to the the prosecutor, the victim after collecting the drugs, refused to do what Agyekum had instructed her and narrated her her ordeal to ‘’ a Good Samaritan’’

On 17th of the same month, the complainant reported the matter to the Police department of Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit at Dansoma and Medical form was issued to seek medical attention and Agyekum was arrested.
