She worked with the Ghana Police Service as a deputy superintendent and public prosecutor. She later joined the judicial service as a district magistrate, rising through the circuit and high courts to become the presiding judge of the Appeal Court in 1991. Her ladyship Justice Woode was appointed to the supreme court in November 2002.
She was nominated and approved in June 2007 by the country's parliament as the first woman in Ghana's history to head the judiciary. She served in that capacity for ten years (June 2007 - June 2017).
She retired in June 2017 and was immediately appointed a Member of council of State having served the state over 5 decades. She was appointed by virtue of the fact that she is a former chief justice.
She is a Christian and worships with the Ringway Gospel Center Assemblies of God Church.
