Court Dismisses NDC MPs Appeal Case

An appeal Court in Cape Coast has dismissed a case brought by the NDC Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency, Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey over her dual Citizenship case.

The MP was dragged to Court after the 2020 Parliamentary Elections over allegations that, she holds Citizenship for both Ghana and Ivory Coast which is against the law.

Under Ghana's Constitution, a person seeking to be elected as a member of Parliament must renounce his ot her Citizenship for other Countries before contesting as a Member of Parliament.

The plaintiff in the case argued that, the Jomoro Member of Parliament failed to renunce her Citizenship for that of Ivory Coast before he filed to contest as a Parliantary Candidate.

The Court ordered her to provide evidence of her renucation of Citizenship within 10 days.

But, the Jomoro Lawmaker filed an appeal at the Cape Coast appeal Court, but the Court in its ruling has dismissed the case brought by the Member of Parliament.

What this means is that, she now has to obey the Court Orders of producing her renunciation certificate before the Court in the sitting.
