24-year-old Maid remanded for allegedly stealing a 'susu' box

Matilda Fosuaa, 24, has been remanded into police custody for stealing a susu (money) box. Matilda at the Ada District Court I this afternoon, cried and begged the court to spare her but the sitting judge, His Lordship Jonathan Avogo, sided with the police and remanded Matilda into police custody.

The judge in ending the day's proceedings ruled that, it was necessary the court remanded Matilda into police custody for the police to fully access and prepare the case before the next hearing. This court is hereby adjourned to the 19 day of January 2022, the judge ruled before the session came to an end.

Matilda was saddened by the outcome of the court, but the prosecutor, brought a smile to her face when she was encouraged to fight. Your tears are normal, fight for your innocence, we don't cry in court.

Crying is unnecessary, and you shouldn't do that. That is not your faith but a trial. Remand is not a sentence, so be strong and prove that you haven't stolen anything. When you do so, it makes the court beautiful and enlightening, so my dear, wipe your tears and get ready to fight me.

If you are innocent, let the court see that. We (me and you) are about to fight, so prepare well and let's meet again on 19 January 2022, Inspector Owusu Rockson said as he motivated the young Matilda to fight for her innovation rather than crying like a baby.

Matilda despite begging the court to spare her the remand, never stated whether she was guilty or not guilty, but cried because of her first time going to prison. These are normal things people do, and I hope she overcomes it, Inspector Owusu added before Matilda was taken away.

Matilda, the maid, is alleged to have stolen a susu box belonging to her boss. Matilda on the 19 November 2021 took a susu box from the closet of her boss. The maid who was cleaning her boss room, forget there were a CCTV camera in the house and hide the susu box in her bags.

Matilda denied taking the box when her boss asked her several times. The boss, Mrs Angelina Ohene, using the footage from the CCTV, barged into Matilda's room and found the box on 25 December 2021.

Matilda after she was caught, argued that she was cleaning the box and forgot herself and sent them to her room. Though it has been confirmed Matilda is suffering from dementia; a medical condition that makes you forget yourself, but the boss Mrs Angelina Ohene, believes Matilda was of a sound kind when she stole the money.

The box contained an amount of GH¢9,453.00. It is unclear whether Matilda will fight with a lawyer or not, but what has been established so far is, she is suffering from dementia and it is highly the court will look into that during the hearing.
