"UTAG" Strike Suspended by Executives- Details

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), has been on industrial action since January 10, 2022, over what it describes as the government’s failure to implement some agreed conditions of service.

After a crunch meeting of the National Executive Committee held on Monday 21st February, Secretary to the University of Ghana Chapter of UTAG, Prof. Ransford Gyampo, communicated the decision of the leadership to suspend the over three weeks old industrial action for two weeks to allow for negotiations to commence. This decision comes after a court order and what leadership says are interventions from the Parliamentary Select committee on education and other Eminent Ghanaians.

The suspension of the strike however is subjected to a vote from the members of the Association within five days to reject or accept the decision of leadership in accordance with section 4(b) of UTAG’s Constitution.

UTAG regrets the strike action and expresses the hope of leadership that negotiations would be completed in two weeks. The leadership of the Association calls for more commitment in addressing their concerns beyond temporary interventions.
