Parade protest

Ejura: Commander of Dampare's Boys In Serious Threat.

For days, Ejura was in focus, all eyes and ears were on Ejura, it wasn't for a fun fair or a festival, but rather, an unfortunate incident of civilians getting shot by military men. The incident panmed out like a movie, as we watched armed military men face off a protesting crowds. Lives were lost a s a result and casualties were recorded too.

How it started : The youth of Ejura took to the street to protest, after one of their own, known as Kaaka (Mohammed Ibrahim) was killed in cold blood. Why and who kiiled Kaaka was a major issue in contention and the incident that happened afterwards, led the President to establish a three-member ministerial committee to look into what happened.

In the form of a public enquiry, the committee's work was live on TV and Radio for the sake of transparency.

After the committee's findings, a 55 pages report / document was submitted to the government, and has subsequently been released to the public.

In the report, recommendations 2 of the report required that the District Police Commander, DSP Philip Kojo Hammond be transferred immediately. The reasons are, first, his poor handling of the situation and secondly, the damage- beyong-repair relationship between him and the community. Looking at the fact that Police-Citizenry relationship is very important, his transfer was necessary.

One good side of the report we sighted was the recommendation that the Ejura Police Station need to be expanded and well staffed.

Should the recommendations be enforced, there is the threat that the commander will lose perhaps the comfort of working with his best personnel, the comfort of his home and also start all over in a new place.
