Manager of Poly Changda Engineering Company Xue Hui has been charged with attempting to murder his employee with a flip knife, and his bail application has been denied by the Sekondi District Court presided over by Her Worship Nana Abena Asoh Owusu Omenyo.
The trial court alone has the authority to grant bail to the accused, according to the presiding judge.
Chief Prosecutor Superintendent Steve Addom presented the facts of the case to the court, stating that the complainant, Isaac Boateng, a concrete mixer, is an employee of the same company as the accused, a Chinese national and manager of Poly Changda Engineering Company, based in Takoradi.
On Tuesday, September 27, he described how the complainant arrived at work at 7:00 am and left at 3 pm rather than 5:00 pm. The accused confronted the complainant the following day during his lunch break to explain why he had closed without permission earlier than usual.
Following a verbal exchange over this, the accused informed the complainant that he had been fired.
According to reports, the complainant grew irritated, packed his professional clothes, and went to the accused person to settle the score.
They got into a heated argument. The accused left his office without warning brandishing a flip knife, which he then used to slash the complainant's neck.
In an interview with Connect FM, the accused's attorney, Akpene Darko Cobbinah, stated that his client has so far displayed great remorse and that it was not his intention to harm his employee.
He stated that the company is already covering all medical costs with the help of his client's device.
Isaac Boateng, the complainant, said he was terrified after the incident.
“All what I was demanding for was for my salary to be paid since he told me he had sacked me. Since the incident my family members especially my wife and kids have always been crying. But I’m trusting that justice will be served.”
The case has been adjourned to Tuesday, October 11 for committal proceedings
