Breaking: Lawyer who accused Chief Justice of taking $5m bribe currently at CID headquarters

CitizenOne can report that the lawyer at the centre of the alleged Chief Justice $5m bribery scandal has reported to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters in Accra this morning. Lawyer Akwasi Afrifa went to the CID office upon invitation extended to him by the police to help in investigating the allegation.

Reporting from the CID headquarters this afternoon monitored by CitizenOne, TV3 reporter Stanley Nii Blewu said the police asked the media to stay away as they didn't invite any media. He added that the CID confirmed that Lawyer Afrifa was in their custody but was not ready to engage the media.

However, media men had strategically located themselves around the CID headquarters hoping to engage Lawyer Afrifa as soon as he steps out.

Lawyer Akwasi Afrifa, a Kumasi based private legal practitioner accused the Chief Justice Kwesi Anin Yeboah of demanding a $5m bribe from one Nana Ogyeedum Akwasi Atta II. According to the lawyer who was a counsel to the said chief in a case pending before the supreme court, Justice Anin Yeboah demanded for the amount in order to give the chief a favourable outcome of the case.

Meanwhile both the Chief Justice and Nana Ogyeedom have denied the allegation. The Chief Justice further reported the matter to the CID for criminal investigations.

CitizenOne has an eye at the CID headquarters and will update followers as and when issues unfold. But you have to follow me to receive the updates automatically.
