According to the Manchester Evening News, in September 2018, despite objections from Shahida Parveen, the patient and her husband, Mamman attempted a "dangerous" procedure to take a bone marrow sample from the woman's breastbone after she failed to obtain a hip sample during her first try.
He reportedly inserted a biopsy needle but it "completely" missed the sternum, causing a fatal stab wound to the pericardium surrounding the heart.
The mother-of-three is said to have immediately lost consciousness and her husband ran out of the room screaming: "He killed him! I told him to stop three times and he didn't listen. He killed him.
He was declared dead that same day.
Maman is believed to have been born in Okene, Kogi State, and qualified as a doctor in Nigeria in 1965. However, he has worked in the UK since 1991.
This is not the first time he has fallen under a cloud of controversy.
Three years earlier, Mamman had reportedly performed the same procedure on a 64-year-old man who had a heart attack on the same day. Although he survived, he remains permanently disabled and suffers from mobility problems.
The court also heard that his "real age" is a matter of dispute as his place of birth does not have a birth registration system in Nigeria.
During his medical training, Maman is said to have given his birth date as September 16, 1936, so he was 21 years old when he began his medical training and 81 years old at the time of his fatal hospital accident.
He then shortened his life by a few years by accepting a birth date of 1941, indicating he started medical school at the age of 16.
But in 2001, as he approached the mandatory retirement age of 65, Maman accepted a different date of birth – October 1947. This date of birth meant that he started his studies at the age of 10.
In 2004, he was found guilty of serious professional misconduct by the General Medical Council (GMC) and suspended for 12 months for lying about his age.
Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, where he worked at the time, fired him but then rehired him in 2006 after being reinstated by GMC on the list, which accepted his birth date as 1943.
However, Mamman has since admitted that he was actually born in 1936. He is expected to be sentenced on Tuesday.
The judge told him to "get ready" to spend some time in prison.
