Multimedia Group, CEO to sue Kennedy Agyapong, Net2 TV and 5 others for defamation

Joy fm, Multimedia Group and the Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr Kwasi Twum have instructed their lawyers to sue the Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency in the Central Region, Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, his Madina based television station Net2 TV for defamation.

The five others joined in the suit are three employees of Kencity Media operators of Net2 TV and two online news portals which republished the said defamatory statement.

The announcement of the suit was contained in a statement issued today, 1st September 2021 by by management with a caption "Joy FM, the Multimedia Group and CEO sue over false and defamatory statements".

Portions of the statement read "In the month of July 2021 (2nd, 9th and 19th), MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong made and repeated false and defamatory statements his Madina based television station Net2 TV. Spuming caution issued by our lawyers on 13th July 2021.

Joy fm, Multimedia Group and CEO Kwasi Twum have been compelled and have taken a firm decision to afford the MP, his media organisation and three of his employees the opportunity to prove the allegations in court".

According to the media release, two other online news portals that also republished the outright falsehoods without care or any attempt to verify the allegations against the three Plaintiff’s have been joined in the suit as 6th and 7th defendants.

"The broadcasts and publications falsely sought to portray the Plaintiffs as unethical, unprofessional and criminal. The broadcast and publications as well as associated defamatory commentary have been carefully and meticulously gathered and formerly transcribed and translated.

Our lawyers are under firm instructions to sue to clear our names." The statement further noted.

We assure all concerned; our client, cherished audiences, stakeholders as well as family, friends, alumni of the Multimedia Group and associates of the CEO who have and continue to reach out to us that our lawyers will today file the suit. The statement said.
