It was all joy and celebration for the Marhguy family as the Accra High Court yesterday, Monday, 31st May 2021, gave its final ruling that the Achimota School should admit the Rastafarian student, Tyrone Marhguy. The father, Mr. Raswad Nkrabea, and his family were jubilating in front of the court after the final ruling.
As Many Ghanaians can remember, Ghana Education ordered the authorities of Achimota School to admit the Rastafarian after they rejected him because of his dreadlocks. The authorities of the school said that the norms of the school cannot allow them to admit a student with dreadlocks so they neglected the advice of the Ghana Education Service.
This issue became the talk of the town as many Ghanaians quizzes how a school could reject someone because of his dreadlocks. The father believing in the constitution as the highest law of the land took up the case to court and God being on their side, the judgment went in their favor.
It is upon this victory for the Rastafarian family that Tilapia The Cartoonist drew this cartoon to compliment the judgment of the Accra High Court. This is what he wrote on his official Facebook page:
"Achimota ‘Old School Law’ shaved!"
The cartoon explained that the deadlock students have used the highest law of the land to prove that indeed someone's hairstyle cannot prevent him or her from getting a quality education. In view of that, these guys have paved the way for all other Rastafarian students to be admitted into Achimota School without any further struggle.
Check out comments from some Ghana below:
A Facebook user known as Prophecy Seeker reacted that "We are waking up now. Even those who brought us the education never make it difficult. We are tired of archaic laws. Let me start breeding my armpit hair. It will be a long hair".
Another Facebook user known as Ebi Process also commented "Achimota school welcoming Rasta Tyrone and waiting for him to miss preps or dining hall". He commented with the hilarious image below.
