The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Kwame Bafo Abronye is threatening to drag Mrs. Lordina Mahama, the wife of the former President Mr. John Dramani Mahama to the Supreme Court to answer some questions about allowances she enjoyed whilst in government.
His threat is coming a few days after the several public outcries surrounding the salaries of the first and second ladies. There have been arguments that all former first ladies in the country are enjoying the allowances but the NPP government decided to formalize it. Mr. John Dramani Mahama who reacted to the topic indicated that the move is unfortunate and inappropriate. He believes the quarterly allowances that are currently existing must be maintained. This is a clear admission that the first and second ladies have been receiving allowances irrespective of the month and period they benefitted.
But some Ghanaians believe that Mr. John Dramani Mahama is trying to politicize the entire issue because it is on record that his wife was enjoying the allowance when he was in power. The latest to add his voice to the issue is Mr. Kwame Bafo who is also known as Abronye. On his Nsempa Fie program, the outspoken member of the New Patriotic Party indicated that Mr. John Dramani Mahama is being mischievous and the only place to settle the entire issue in the Supreme Court.
According to him, he will ask the Supreme Court to calculate all the allowances enjoyed by Mrs. Lordina Mahama whilst in office as illegal and must be forced to make a refund to the state. “I’m going back to the supreme court to sue the wife of John Mahama because she received the allowance which her husband is against”. He alleged. We should not forget that Abronye is already in court on the same issue.
He also alleged that Lordina Mahama also enjoyed some benefits from the state and must provide reasons why she deserved them. He says all those benefits will also be declared illegal.
The summary of Mr. Kwame Abronye’s allegations is that John Dramani Mahama should not have commented on the salaries of the first and second ladies because he is guilty. However, if Mr. Kwame Bafo has the documents to prove the allegations, it is only the court that can provide the needed interpretation of the law and compel the former first lady to pay back the allowances or otherwise. We are waiting for an interesting day in court.
