A Senior Lecturer and Senior Research fellow of the Kumasi Technical University, Dr. Smart Sarpong has opined that it is prematurely for Chief Justice to step aside temporarily. This follows after a Lawyer with long standing Akwasi Afrifa leveled bribery allegation against the current Chief Justice, Akwasi Anin Yeboah.
According to him, since the case has been referred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana police service, should wait for their report. "We should base on the prima facie and not the allegation". Unless enough charge has been leveled against Chief Justice (Bribery and Corruption) before the process begins.
The Chief Justice is willing to let us go through the process whiles the one who made the allegation is a lawyer with long standing, and each knows the consequences and implications of case like this. He added that the General Legal Council will purge and do quality work without favouritism.
Speaking on Hello FM in Kumasi, Saturday July 17, 2021, disclosed that his problem is the political intrusion. This is not about the NPP and NDC but law and we should allowed those with adequate knowledge to handle it. He reiterated that there's no enough evidence and if more evidence is gathered against the Chief Justice he knows he will do the honourable thing, by stepping aside. But as it stance now, it is too early to call the Chief Justice to step aside temporarily.
