Chaotic Scene: We Started Peacefully Until The Police Showed Up–Madina Youths Lament

The meticulously planned and lawful demonstration organized by the residents of Madina and it's surrounding areas in the Greater Accra Regional capital, Accra turned around and has gone berserk after troups from the Ghana Police Service stormed their midst with the attempt to arrest the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Francis Xavier Sosu.

Speaking to Emefa Apawu on Midday Live on Joy 99.7FM this afternoon, Honorable Francis Xavier Sosu who is the Member of Parliament for Madina said that it took the intervention of the strong and brave youths who are actually leading the demonstration alongside himself to prevent the police from arresting him.

What would you make out of the struggle and conflict that transpired between your protestors and the police earlier today?, Emefa Apawu asked Hon. Xavier Sosu via call.

"In my position as a Member of Parliament and as such a representative of my people and lawyer, I would definitely say that our demonstration was a peaceful and a lawful one. But for the appearance of the police from nowhere, I believe that the people's plight would have reached the government without any fear of threat or quarrels," Hon. Francis Xavier Sosu tells Emefa Apawu.

"You know what actually happened can best be explained by the fact that the police were the cause of the chaos. I see no reason why they would come to interfere with a demonstration organized by a bunch of unarmed youth who are demonstrating their hearts out to government to fix the deplorable state of their roads. This is a national issue and cam only be solved by government."

I described the demonstration as lawful because we have gone through all the necessary legal processes and we have also duly informed the police. Actually, the youth wanted to do this a long time ago but I told them that look, we have to plan everything nicely so that your plea can reach government peacefully," he added.

Earlier this morning, youth of the Madina Constituency embarked on demonstration to make a call on government to fix their deplorable roads.
