A teacher who has sodomized 19 JHS students is in trouble with the law

A Tamale Circuit Court has ordered a teacher accused of sodomizing 19 students of the Kulpi Junior High School (JHS) in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savanna Region, to be held in police custody.

This was when Natomah Yamousah Otabel, appeared before the court to answer for his crime. He pleaded guilty to charges of defilement and unnatural carnal knowledge. He would be making his next appearance on Thursday, October 21.

He had earlier been discharged by the Salaga Magistrate Court, where he had been sent, after his arrest by the police, and this was not because he does not have a case to answer but because the nature of the offence and the punishment, he could face on conviction, is beyond the jurisdiction of the lower court.

As soon as he stepped out of the witness box, he was re-arrested by the police and put before a Circuit Court in Tamale.

Natomah, a social studies teacher, would lure his victims to the teachers’ quarters, where he lives, under the pretext of sending them on an errand and sexually assault them – penetrate his victims through the anus.

He would do that without wearing a condom. One of the school children, who could not any longer keep the pain and trauma, the teacher was taking them through to himself “let the cat out of the bag”.

The boy gathered courage, told a female teacher in the school about the sexual abuse they had been suffering at the hands of Natomah.

She in turn, reported the matter to the headteacher and the assistant headteacher of the school.

The accused teacher was invited and confronted with the report they had received.

He would not deny - confessed to the crime – sodomizing them.

A staggering number of 19 school children came forward to confirm having been sexually abused by the teacher.

A formal report was subsequently filed with the police and he was arrested.
