Parade protest

A new date for the #FixTheCountry demonstration.

Conveners of the #FixTheCountry campaign, has announced that, they will soon come out with a new date for their demonstration.

Speaking on Citi News; Mr. Brownson Adatsi, one of the conveners revealed that; the #FixTheCountry demonstration will soon be organized in accordance with the laws, and that; “We are not worried at all, having known, that this is the system; and this is what it means. We have always been saying that, the culture of protests and demonstrations must not be encouraged in this country; because people turn to equate demonstration to terrorism, so anytime there is a need for demonstration, people turn to raise eyebrows against it”.

Mr. Adatsi added further that; “So we understand that very well, and we are not relenting or stopping anytime soon, and Ghanaians can expect the best from us. The date is already past, so we would have to fix another date for it. We are assuring Ghanaians that we are safe because we live in a democratic nation and are within the remits of the law. So nothing bad will happen to the conveners”.

The #FixTheCountryNow campaign is a Ghanaians protest against the economic hardships in the country. Some Ghanaian youth; for some times now, have been lamenting the hike in fuel prices, poor education, and poor road network among others.

Conveners of the protest; on May 2021 wrote to the Ghana Police Service, to notify them of the #FixTheCountryNow demonstration… which was scheduled for Sunday, May 9, 2021 at the Black Star Square in Accra.

The Ghana police, however, obtained an ex parte injunction, followed with the injunction application on the 12th of May 2021, to stop the campaigners from demonstrating.

A High Court judge, on 25 June, 2021 dismissed an injunction application against the #Fixethcountry demonstration. According the Presiding judge, Justice Ruby Aryeetey; the application against the demonstration is considered moot; because the date for the intended demonstration had elapsed; adding the conveners of the protest could go ahead and demonstrate, but must go through the laid down procedure by writing to the police.

However, the conveners of the #Fixethcountry protest have stated that; since the date for their intended demonstration has already passed; they will soon announce to the public… a new date.
