It Is The First Time This Is Happening And The NDC Will React Tomorrow – Sammy Gyamfi

For some few days there has been alleged reports of a bribery scandal involving the Chief Justice, Justice Anin Yeboah. Lawyer Afrifa has alleged that he was put off from a case because the case was to be transferred to the Supreme Court and the petitioner in the case he was handling was to have the support of the Chief Justice. According to Lawyer Africa his client was asked to bring a bribe of $5 million to be paid to the Chief Justice

Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC Communications Officer who appeared on ‘Ekosii Sen’, today, Monday, July 12, 2021, insisted this is the first time a Chief Justice has been accused of allegedly taking bribe. He argued that Ghanaians are losing trust in the Judiciary. He called on Parliament to pass a resolution and force Akufo-Addo to create a committee to investigate the conduct of the Chief Justice.

“This is the first time such a thing is happening. For a Chief Justice to be accused is very dangerous. Already people have lost faith in the Judiciary. According to a CDD barometer about 80% of Ghanaians don’t trust the Judiciary. People can lose hope in the Executive and Legislature but the Judiciary should be the last hope. We need to treat this serious.

This is serious because it is not from anybody on the streets but a great lawyer like Lawyer Afrifa. He is one of the most successful lawyers. I don’t agree that the CID should handle this case. The case should rather be referred to the General Legal Council. A press conference will be held tomorrow and Asiedu Nketia will speak on this. It is a serious matter” Sammy Gyamfi said.

Sammy Gyamfi mentioned that the NDC is scheduled to have a press conference tomorrow to address the situation. He called on the Chief Justice to step aside and be investigated or else all shadows of trust in the Judiciary will be lost. The Chief Justice has referred the case to the CID to investigate the charges brought against him.

Many say the NDC are only making noise to tarnish the image of the Chief Justice. The critics of the NDC say the party has issues with the CJ and want to settle scores after their election petition loss. Today, ASEPA has also filed a petition the CHRAJ to investigate the Chief Justice.
