Abraham Lincoln defined democracy as a government of the people, by the people and for the people.
In this modern democratic world, one can ironically define democracy as the exploitation of the masses by the few people who have been entrusted with state power and resources.
Whenever there is injustices or abuse of power, the victims have so many channels to vent their displeasure legally.
They can resort to demonstrations, protesting, vigil or any form of mass gathering to express their sentimental reasons regarding the abusiveness and injustices in the society. They call it “street justice”.
However, some may take legal actions by filing an application to challenge any whiff of impropriety in the society at a court of law.
At the end of it all, peace must prevail at the route of justice. Justice shouldn’t be sacrificed for peace and vice versa.
On February 11, 2021 controversial freelance journalist, Kevin Taylor, proclaims the best course of an action a person can take in order to achieve justice.
He believes that the street has always found a best remedy for injustices, nepotism, favouritism and gross biasness in every matured democracies.
Therefore, he supports the use of street mechanism in achieving justice.
Nonetheless, any obstacle that will hinder this course should suffer the pains of the oppressor.
He wrote on his Facebook page that
“In all matured democracies ‘the streets' have always solved problems. The streets are calling for justice and accountability, who ever stands before the anger of the streets stands in the way of justice and should suffer the pain.”
