Photos: Final year JHS students of Obom abandon school after soldiers invade the town.

On Tuesday residents of Dome Faase in Obom in Ga South vented their spleen on 2 military men keeping charge over a piece of land. The coalition of Ga communities claimed that the Mponuahene of Akyem Apadwa and the Akyem Traditional Council are coveting their lands.

According to the chief of Obom, Nii Addo Omankrado the residents felt endangered by the presence of the 2 military men and accidentally assaulted them after the military men fired some warning shots. Later military reinforcements stormed the area leading to some brutalities forcing people to flee from the area.

The military invasion has had some repercussions on the people in the area. Final year students of Obom Kojoman M/A Junior High School have all fled and yet to return.

It is less than a month to their final BECE sit down and many are wondering if this will affect their studies. Those still around are scared to return back to school.

Again a church close to the school also had to forfeit their convention because of the military invasion. The congregants left leaving their instruments, tents and equipment for the crusade. It is yet to be seen when they will return.

The healthcare centre in the area have also been deserted. For the exception of a few staff at the centre many of the staff have fled leaving only a few. The streets are dry with virtually no one outside. Many have fled the community and others are stuck in their homes.

This event is similar to what happened in Denkyira Obuasi when a military man was attacked and killed leading to a massive military intervention in the area. Share your thoughts!
