As part of directives from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources headed by Mr. Samuel Abu Jinapor, military men have destroyed three motorbikes estimated to be over Ghc21, 000 owned by some galamsey operators in Nadowli-Kaleo District of the Upper West Region. Some Residents including Augustine Ayirideme have reacted to the development. Actions of the Soldiers resulted in commercial tree(Shea Tree) being burnt down.
"I understand this happened somewhere near Nadowli in the Upper West Region. Military guys believed to be part of the anti-galamsey Operation Halt deployment, seized motorbikes, piled them up around a live shea tree and burnt them together with the shea tree. One wonders whether the shea tree too was being used for galamsey or was itself a galamseyer. Why? I thought the objective of this whole seize-and-burn business, inappropriate as some of us think it is, was the protection of our natural resources. Why in God's name then was the live shea tree burnt?
Dear Mr Abu Jinapor and Mr Dominic Nitiwul, ministers for environment and defense respectively, both of you happen to be true sons of the savannah, have you seen this?".
