The IGP has placed 5000 cedis as a reward to any patriotic person who will help retrieve or registered AK-47 guns. He said this on a popular radio station. According to the IGP, only a person given the authority by the Ghana Armed Forces can use an AK-47 gun.
He took time to say that the deadly weapons in the hands of Armed Robbers is very serious and something must be done about it.
" AK47 guns are strictly for security agencies so if you find anybody with an AK-47 gun who is not a member of the security agencies then it means that the possession of that weapon is illegal. Anybody who provides information for us to retrieve an AK-47 gun will be given 5000 cedis as a reward. There is also another option. This option was instituted by the interior minister two years ago where amnesty was granted for people possessing illegal weapons to return them to any Security Agency. We are appealing to people like you to provide information for us to be able to achieve weapons. I am using this opportunity to tell people with unlicensed weapons to return them to the police immediately," the IGP indicated.
