Putin is allegedly planning a significant offensive for the new year, according to Ukraine.
Despite several embarrassing defeats on the battlefield for Russia recently, senior Ukrainian authorities claim that Vladimir Putin is planning for a significant new attack in the new year.
Oleksii Reznikov, the defence minister of Ukraine, told the Guardian in an interview that while his country could now successfully protect itself from Russian missile assaults on vital infrastructure, such as the electrical grid, there was evidence that Moscow was preparing a broad new offensive.
Reznikov’s comments echoed similar remarks made to the Economist this week – including from the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the head of the armed forces, Gen Valerii Zaluzhnyi, and the chief of ground forces, Col Gen Oleksandr Syrskii.
The briefings looked to be a part of a major, coordinated campaign to caution western partners against complacency and emphasize the ongoing threat Russia posed to Ukraine.
